Sciots January Update

We hope you are doing well. We thought we’d give you a little Sciots Camp update. In case you haven’t checked, the webcam has been out of service since the last power outage and was reset Sunday. You may want to check it out soon, there’s a major storm warning in effect beginning tonight through next Tuesday. We’re not sure how long there will be power.

1/30/2021 8:30 AM

The last storm blew over several trees in Camp causing at least one water leak at the top of Hernia Heights. Pete Southworth assessed all cabins and saw no apparent damage. Thanks Pete! We’ll have plenty of clean up and several water leaks to repair when this season begins. We hope you and your family is well and healthy.

Regional Closure Order Lifted

Hello Recreation Residence Contacts,

This email is to give you advance notice that the Regional Closure Order, affecting recreation residence permit holders on the El Dorado National Forest, will be lifted starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, September 19, 2020.  At that time, you are free to return to your recreation residence.

A full outdoor fire ban continues to be in effect.  No open flame including no barbeques of any kind are allowed outdoors, even on your deck.

A Forest-wide ban on dispersed camping including camping in Desolation Wilderness is expected starting tomorrow.  Some designated campgrounds will reopen.  A closure of the Fork Fire and surrounding areas will continue.

The Forest Service thanks recreation residence permit holders for their cooperation in following the closures and restrictions.  Our priority is always to keep everyone safe: the public, including recreation residence permit holders, as well as our employees, including our awesome firefighters.  Your support of the temporary closure helped do that.

The El Dorado National Forest (ENF) website, https://www.fs.usda.gov/eldorado/ and social media links found there are excellent sources for current information.  As we transition into the fall season, you can expect conditions, closures and restrictions to change, sometimes rapidly, so checking these information sources before each cabin visit is a good idea.

Please share this email with others as I do not have email addresses for everyone.
