Dear Permit Holders:

We hope that you and yours are staying safe and healthy during this challenging and stressful time. Like some of you, many Eldorado National Forest and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit employees are evacuated from our homes and/or offices. We are working on Caldor Fire tasks and continue to work on regular forest business as much as possible.

As of today there are approximately 4,000 firefighters still working to suppress this fire throughout El Dorado, Amador, and Alpine Counties.  They have done an admirable job of protecting residences and businesses in the face of severe conditions.  We realize that some of you may have lost cabins or other structures authorized under permit, and we will work with you as the full picture of the fire impacts are known.

There is no definite ending date for the current evacuation orders and the closure order for Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and other national forests in California is in place until at least September 17, with the Eldorado National Forest closure extending until at least September 30.  We will keep you informed about any changes to the forest closures. We encourage you to check the following web sites to monitor the progress on the fire suppression efforts, as well as other changes in the status of evacuations and closures:

In regard to specific questions about your cabin, please contact your special use permit administrator, Nancy Platt at 530-647-5354 or nancy.platt@usda.gov for the Placerville Ranger District cabins along Highway 50, including Atwood Tract at Echo Summit (near the intersection of Johnson Pass Road) to Bull Creek Tract near Riverton (Intersection of Ice House Road).

This past several weeks have added stresses to those of the past year-and-a-half.  Our thoughts are with you and your family and we look forward to the time when we can all return to our National Forest lands and communities.   Together, we will move forward with increased appreciation for our shared stewardship in managing these lands we all care about so much.

Best regards,
